Blog Urbit Port and Windows binaries is no longer officially supported
Jeremy Tunnell at
The tough decision has been made, for now, to stop supporting a Windows binary and stop supporting the Urbit Port application.
This sucks, but it's necessary for now. The Windows binary and Port were very tough to support.
What does this mean for you?
- If you are running Urbit on Windows desktop using Port, you will no longer get binary updates. At some point you will need to move your planet to a hosting provider, or a linux vps, or run it on windows with virtualization.
- If you are running Urbit on Port for Linux, you are fine for a while as long as things are working. However, eventually, you will need to move your planet to a hosting provider, or a linux vps, or do a manual install.
There's currently another project working on Windows support, so stay tuned for that in 2023.
